Newly Engaged? Here are my Top 5 pieces of advice I give to Couples!

Hello, I’m Ioana Porav I am a fine art Wedding and Portrait photographer based in Europe, I love to create new connections and being around people!

Experience in one of the most important facts that I guide my work, I love travelling, tasting new food and wine, not to mention about movies!

I love movies and I also love making movies! This profession also gave me the freedom and flexibility I needed to be around my children. I couldn’t do a better choice!

In today’s blog, I’m going to talk about my 5 top pieces of advice for an engagement photoshoot that I give to newly engaged couples!

If this will be your first time taking professional photos well, I will work closely with you to take the most beautiful engagement photos and being true to your story.

That being said, there are 5 things you can do to get ready for the best photo session possible.

1. Be there in time

My style is defined by using natural light, which means I plan all my engagement sessions to have the best possible light – sometimes close to Golden Hour.

This is the magical time of day when the sun is lower on the horizon and the shadows are longer. The light is warmer and softer than at noon, which is why I prefer to photograph couples during this period, whenever possible.

On weddings foe example, the program does not usually allow us to go out too much to catch the golden hour, unless the first dance is done outside in nature.

So we want to make the most of our engagement session!

2. Go Pro with your hair and makeup

Regarding the look, I recommend you to take it seriously, because it will look amazing and remove the stress of preparing yourself. Professional hair styling and makeup will give you extra confidence in front of the camera and photos will always be a dream. Unless you are very good at it and you can disregard this advice .

So, If you work with a make-up artist, ask her to apply makeup in natural light, if possible, so that it looks fresh and light! In addition, this is the type of light in which we will shoot, so it will give you the best picture of what the camera will look like in front of you.

Most brides think that their makeup is “too much” at first, because it is more than you would wear on a normal day. Also a good advice will be choose your make up artist wisely.

So if you feel this at first, don’t worry! Make up good artists know how to make a proper make up and our brides always love the final images. If you need a recommendation for hair and makeup, I can recommend some AMAZING make up artists!

Quick tip: Many brides choose to schedule their makeup and hair tests for the morning of the engagement session.

This is a great way to see and test what your make-up looks like on your camera, as well as give you extra beauty for your perfect skin and beautiful eyes ready for the engagement pictures!

They are among the few things that allow you to feel much more beautiful and confident in front of the camera, which has an impact on the final images we make. Trust is always the best accessory!

3. A shiny manicure

During the sessions your hands next to that gorgeous ring will be the center of attention, so give yourself time to do your nails!

I love taking pictures with your hands around your fiancé’s neck and in other intimate moments like a little kiss or with your hands on your arms or your fingers intertwined, so make sure your nails are beautiful, polished and ready to shine!

 Quick tip: Clean your ring

As mentioned above, your new ring is a focal point during the session, and yet most people don’t even think about cleaning it for the session. A quick clean will make it shiny again!

4. Prepare a small bag of essentials

We recommend that you add some essentials to make your session more enjoyable.

Bring a small bag containing a pair of walking shoes, some makeup products for a little refreshment, a bottle of water, a snack (fruit or whatever you please) sometimes my clients prefer the second outfit too

Try to avoid packing too many extra things and stick to the essentials (trust me, you won’t want to have a heavy bag, as we will be moving a lot during the session).

5. Trust me

The key is to trust me!

Let me be creative and I promise you it won’t be disappointed!

You just have to be willing to follow me and collaborate as easily as possible!

It is my job to help you relax and get through the session more easily, trust me allows you to have fun.

One of the most common reviews of my couples after a session was that they were happy and that I made them feel confident. I love to do this!

Until next time I wish you well and a joyful week!
